Church in Great BringtonChurch at Great Brington

This is the 13th century church of St. Mary the Virgin in the village of Great Brington nestled in the green and rolling Northamptonshire countryside. Great Brington is a mile down the road from Althorp, the stately ancestral home of Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a tragic car crash in Paris in August of 1997. Twenty generations of Diana's Spencer ancestors are entombed within the chapel vault of St. Mary's. According to what our English friends and relatives told us, it is rumoured that Diana is actually buried here instead of on the island at the Althorp estate as we have all been led to believe. My husband, John, and I visited St. Mary's on a cloudy weekday afternoon in mid-April. As we stood outside the honey-colored stone church, the sun suddenly appeared, bathing this sacred place of worship in a soft and diffused golden light. I became aware of an inner emotion of peace and serenity, proof indeed (as far as I was concerned), that Diana rests in peace within the church vault. I could not really articulate my certainty of feeling but I knew I felt close to Diana and John agreed with me.

Ann at one of her favourite haunts!Ann in the
Queen Victoria Pub

Here I am enjoying my favorite pastime, relaxing with a glass of red wine at a cozy neighborhood pub near where Barry and Jackie Holliman live (friends of John's). The Queen Victoria is located on the road between Maidenhead and Reading in the county of Berkshire.

hail! hail! the gangs all here!Ann and John with Barry and Jackie at their home

After the visit to the Queen Victoria, we went back to Barry and Jackie's for more fun and fellowship. Barry owns a nursery and landscaping business.

Holding up the town!Ann in the Village Square of Foulsham

Foulsham is the village where my mother-in-law lives, sixteen miles from the capital city of Norwich in the county of Norfolk The village, with a population of about two thousand, is ideally located in a very picturesque rural area only twenty miles from the seacoast (North Sea). The air is clear, clean and fresh, a most healthy atmosphere in which to live. Residents of Norfolk live to a ripe old age! When John and I spend time in Foulsham, we feel we shed ten years!

Just beautiful!

Avon Dassett is an area of gently rolling hills and dales near the city of Leamington Spa in the county of Warwickshire. At this stage in our holiday, we were staying with John's cousin, Helen, and her husband, Arnold, who live in the lovely village of Bishops Itchington in a two hundred-year-old house about ten miles from this beautiful location.
